Adding Sounds

Now it’s time to add our sounds to our game. On your freestyle editor dashboard, click “Sounds” in the left-hand sidebar. You’ll see that we don’t have any yet—but we’ll change that.

Along with the art you needed for your Elements, our game kit also included all the sounds we need, located in the Sounds folder. We’ll be adding 9 sounds to our game:

  • Collect Coin
  • Die
  • Level 1
  • Level 2
  • Level 3
  • Level End
  • Title
  • Walking
  • Jump

Each sound file is in the sounds folder is named to match its use.

Adding a New Sound

From the Sounds page in the freestyle editor dashboard, click “New Sound” in the upper right. Name the sound “Collect Coin”. Then, click the “Upload Sound” button to upload the Collect Coin sound file (in the Sounds folder).

Repeat this process for our other 7 sounds.

Looping Sounds

The “Loop Sound” option makes a sound repeat after it finishes. By default, each sound will only play once (unless we tell the game to play it again). If the “Loop Sound” option is selected, the sound will continue to play until it is explicitly stopped.

Generally, we only want to loop sounds that are being used as background music. For our game, that’s the sounds named Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and Title.

Mark those sounds as looped in our game. When you’re all done, your Sounds list should look like this.
